The Self Image
At the center of human agency lies a quiet, constant mechanism: the self-image. Long before we take action, make decisions, or attempt to overcome adversity, our mind relies on an internal blueprint—a deeply ingrained system of beliefs regarding who we are, what we deserve, and what we are capable of achieving. As plastic surgeon and pioneer of self-image psychology Dr. Maxwell Maltz observed, the human mind operates much like a servo-mechanism; it acts strictly in accordance with its internal programming. If that programming holds an image of inadequacy, every effort toward success will be subconsciously undermined to maintain consistency with that self-conception.
